Natsu-mōde(夏詣) in Hokkaido -Ⅱ-
これからの半年間の、人々の健康と無病息災を願う風習(日本)
<series 2:  Messenger of Gods(神使), inside the forest of Obihiro Shrine>
The precincts of the Obihiro Shrine are one of the oases of wild birds in Obihiro City. Escaped from the hustle and bustle of the city, the animals living in the forest of the shrine are busy raising children. The shrine forest is home to many animals such as EZO squirrels, Great Spotted Woodpecker, and long-tailed tit.
Location: minami 2-chome, higashi 3, Obihiro City, Hokkaido, Japan, July 2020.

The precincts of the Obihiro Shrine
☘️
Why do people feel sacred if they get through the Torii gate, and enter the grounds of a shrine surrounded by forest?  It seems as if the forest of the shrine is like a huge time machine connected to the Ages of Gods (Kami-Yo/Jindai) as if I'm falling into a deep meditation space.

When I stepped to the main shrine after bowing to the guardian dog(狛犬, Koma-Inu) of the Shin-mon(神門), a golden rabbit was carved on the gate near the worship hall.  In Shinto, the animals selected by Japanese gods are called the Shin-Shi(神使), and statues of these animals are placed in the precincts as guardian beasts of the shrine.
